10 Years Back - TRAVIS: Live at the 9:30 Club | Washington, DC | 16 July 2007
Seeing as it's going on 10 years, I thought this would be a fun throwback. Shooting a concert with a consumer point-and-shoot camera doesn't typically yield great results, but I was (and still am) delighted with what I brought home from this show.
In July 2007, my then-girlfriend (now wife) Tina and I drove to DC see one of our all-time favorite bands, Travis. I used Tina's Canon PowerShot A560 to shoot the event. A whopping 7.1 megapixels, it featured "manual" control (which was actually just exposure compensation). It was enough!
All color images are unedited, straight-out-of-camera JPEG files. The B+W images were converted in Lightroom and had minor exposure/contrast adjustments.
After the show, I posted a gallery of images on the Travis fan message board, and was thrilled when I was contacted by Fran Healy (lead singer of the band) asking if I'd send him the images for his personal use. I was flattered; there's no better compliment!
The show was broadcast live on NPR; stream it here.
